We are so very proud to share that The Watermill Center has officially announced that Charles Chemin is the new Artistic Director! He will now lead The Watermill Center alongside Managing Director Elise Herget and Curator Noah Khoshbin.
Founded by avant-garde visionary Robert Wilson, The Watermill Center is an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts and humanities situated in Long Island’s East End. Since 1992, Watermill has welcomed international artists of all disciplines to collaborate, take creative risks and contribute new ideas to contemporary culture. It’s mission is to support artists at all career stages with opportunities to learn and connect with a global creative network.
The Watermill Center’s grounds and gardens are home to multifunctional studios and living spaces, a collection of over 8,000 artworks and objects, a research library, and the archives of Robert Wilson and the Center.
Charles is one of the core supporters of IPS. He has been with us ever since the very beginning, back in 2022, and last year we had to pleasure of having him also as one of the mentors for the 20 participants of IPS 2025 – Face to face. Who is the Other?
Congratulations, Charles!
Everybody here at International Program in Scenography knows what an amazing job you will do as the new Artistic Director of The Watermill Center and we cannot wait to see you again!
