Date: 5 September 2026, 18:00

The fifth edition of the International Program in Scenography (IPS) closes with a free public gala on the Siutghiol Lake promenade in Ovidiu, opening at 18:00 on 5 September 2026.

Initiated in 2022 by OISTAT Romania together with the Constanța State Theatre and the Ovidiu City Hall, IPS this year gathers 20 students and emerging artists from 15 countries — scenographers, lighting and sound designers, architects, choreographers, directors and performers from the United States, China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Taiwan, Switzerland, Latvia, Bulgaria and Romania — working alongside three established mentors from the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States/Romania.

The 2026 edition is framed by the theme Bird in Space. Drawing on Constantin Brâncuși’s celebrated Birds series, the residency explores flight, freedom and the very definition of art. The project also marks 150 years since Brâncuși’s birth and Romania’s official designation of 2026 as the Constantin Brâncuși Year.

Over two weeks, participants developed performative and site-specific installations along the lake and in the surrounding landscape in Ovidiu, works that will be presented to the public for the first time at the gala.

- Children’s Parade — the evening opens with local children presenting pieces they created during the community scenography workshops they attended
