Wan-Jung Wei, Executive Director of OISTAT International, has said that during World Stage Design Sharjah 2025, „the OISTAT World Congress 2025 offered an essential space for reflection and collective direction-setting. For the first time in OISTAT’s history, the Congress was live streamed, an important step toward greater inclusion and broader participation across our global membership.”

During the Congress, the proposals for World Stage Design 2029 have been discussed, OISTAT Romania’s proposal for Bucharest coming in a close second to Germany’s Berlin proposal – the later announced winner of WSD 2029.

There were also elections being held for the new OISTAT President and Executive Committee members through a hybrid election process to guide the organization forward. And thus, the new President of OISTAT International has been elected and it is none other than Aby Cohen. OISTAT Romania is proud to have supported her candidacy at the elections and to have her as one of the biggest supporters of our very own International Program in Scenography annual residency. Ever since the first edition of IPS, OISTAT International, presided by Aby, has been an immense support for OISTAT Romania, and since 2023 Aby has been present at the IPS Galas. Moreover, for last year’s edition of IPS 2025 – Face to Face. Who is the Other?, we had the immense joy of having her as a mentor for the 20 participants in the residency.

This new chapter for OISTAT International marks not only a moment of transition, but one of continuity and strengthened collaboration. OISTAT Romania remains committed to actively contributing to the international dialogue in scenography and performance design, and to further developing its very own International Program in Scenography, which continues to connect artists, ideas, and generations.

As we look ahead to IPS 2026 – Bird in Space, we do so with renewed confidence in the power of international exchange and with gratitude for the partnerships that make our work possible.
